Warm showers are even more important as the weather grows colder. When your water heater fails, your family’s routine could be greatly impacted. The FitzGerald and Sons team wants to keep you comfortable in every season, so we are standing by to help. Look out for these signs of water heater failure and give us a call!

  •       Your Heater is Getting Old—Knowing the age of your water heater is extremely valuable, so that you can gauge when yours could fail based upon the average lifespan. If you are unsure of the age, you can find out easily once you locate the serial number. Typically, the serial number starts with a letter. The letter corresponds with a month of a year. For example, if your serial number starts with B, your water heater was made in February. B is the second letter in the alphabet, so it connects with the second month of the year. The next two numbers after the letter are the year. If your serial number is D124568923, your water heater was made in April 2012. There are some manufacturers who may utilize a different method, but you could contact them directly to find out the age. Generally speaking, if your water heater is more than ten years old, you should consider replacing it.  Newer water heaters simply have a “date manufactured” stamped on the tag on the heater jacket.
  •       You Notice Rust—Having rust in your water is not healthy. If you notice rust or rusty colored water when you run your water, give us a call. Most likely, your water heater will need to be replaced for your safety.
  •       Your Water Heater is Noisy—If you hear noises coming from your water heater, most likely this is due to sediment forming in your water heater. Simply flushing the water heater out through the drain fitting may take care of this, or it could signal the beginning of the end.

Starting your day without warm water is unpleasant and inconvenient. Give FitzGerald and Sons Plumbing Company a call as soon as you see signs of water heater failure!
